Receiving a Shopping & Delivery offer
Shopping & Delivery offers include details you can review before deciding whether to accept the offer. Depending on the offer, you may see:
- Estimated earnings breakdown
- Estimated shopping time
- Preview of the shopping list
- Delivery due time
- Delivery details and distance
Getting started in the store
After you accept the offer and confirm arrival at the store, you can:
- Get a shopping cart, if you’d like.
- Tap Start shopping in the app.
The app offers a suggested shopping path based on the items in the order. You can choose to follow the suggested path or shop the items in a different order.
You can use the app to view:
- Aisle locations (alphanumeric, posted at the start of aisles).
- Section numbers (located at the top and bottom of shelves).
- Item names, descriptions, and images.
To return to the full shopping list, you can tap the back arrow or Item List.
Scanning and shopping items
As you shop, you can:
- Use the app to scan each item’s barcode.
- Continue to the next item after the item is confirmed.
- Bag items like produce, raw meat, and seafood separately to help reduce cross-contamination.
Some items, like produce, meat, and seafood, may need to be weighed or entered differently in the app. You can review Produce and meat shopping for more information.
Handling unavailable items
If an item isn’t available, you can tap Can’t find item in the app.
If the customer allows substitutions, the app may suggest a substitution. In some cases, it may appear later in the shopping process.
When a suggested substitution is available, you can review and scan the suggested item.
The customer may choose to Accept or Reject a substitution. You can view the customer’s decision in the Completed tab of the item list.
After you finish shopping, you can also view the customer’s substitution decisions in the Review changes section before checkout.
If a substitution is rejected or no substitutions are allowed for an item, those items will not negatively impact your My Metrics for Quantity found.
If a suggested substitution is not available, you can:
- Select another eligible substitution,
- Tap No substitution found if an eligible option isn’t available, or
- Continue to the next item.
Items that aren’t eligible for substitutions and substitutions rejected by the customer won’t negatively impact your Quantity Found metric.
Checkout process
After you’ve shopped all the items in the order, you’ll see a “You’re done shopping!” screen in your app.
You can go to a self-checkout register and follow the in-app prompts to complete checkout for the order.
To complete checkout, you can:
- Review the customer’s substitution decisions in the Review changes section in the app.
- Use the self-checkout register scanner to scan the checkout barcode shown in the app.
- Allow an associate to review the order during checkout, if requested.
- Bag the items and review the in-app bagging tips.
- Tap Go to Exit Pass after bagging is complete.
Because the customer prepaid for the order, you won’t need to scan individual items or pay at the register. After checkout is complete, the customer will receive a digital receipt for their order.
In some stores, an associate may ask to view or scan your Exit Pass before you leave the store.
Invalid Barcode message at checkout
An Invalid barcode message may appear if the self-checkout register hasn’t fully reset after a previous transaction.
If you see this message, you can tap Cancel transaction on the self-checkout register. After the register returns to the starting screen, you can scan the checkout barcode again.
You won’t need to restart the Spark Driver app.
If the register doesn’t reset or the barcode still won’t scan, you can ask a store associate for help.
Need help?
If you need help with locating bags, removing anti-theft devices, or completing checkout, you can ask an associate for help.
Leaving the store
A store associate near the self-checkout or exit area may ask to view or scan your Exit Pass as you’re leaving the store.
Once outside, you can tap I’ve left the store in the app.
Delivering the order
After confirming you’ve left the store, you can follow the in-app prompts to deliver the order.
